Alloa Half Marathon
March 29, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Update from the Alloa Half Marathon Team:
First of all we would like to thank all our runners, sponsors and volunteers for their incredible support over the last few months during the current pandemic! We say this every year but it is the runners that make this race and you have shown this yet again! Thank-you.
After reviewing all of the updates from the UK and Scottish Governments it is becoming more and more likely that some form of social distancing will be in place until after 27th September 2020. We have, therefore, taken the extremely difficult decision to postpone the race until the 28th March 2021.
We have created 4 options for all runners. Before we explain what each option is we would like to give you a little bit of understanding and ask for your support. So far we have incurred a number of costs in planning the 2020 race (for example, purchasing t-shirts/medals and arranging road closures) and have calculated that this cost currently stands at £10.70 per runner. With this in mind we would like to present to you 4 options but it would be greatly appreciated if you could give one of the first 3 options more consideration.
Option 1 – Run a “Virtual Race” – Send us evidence that you have run the race and we will post you your medal & t-shirt and share your accomplishment on our Facebook page!
Option 2 – Defer your place until 2021
Option 3 – Ask for a part refund – We will refund you £14 and post you your medal and t-shirt
Option 4 – Ask for a full refund – We understand that this is a difficult time for people financially but if you can afford not to do this it would be greatly appreciated as the Alloa Half Marathon is an event run entirely by volunteers and all proceeds are donated to local charities and good causes. This funding is particularly needed during the current situation.
Proceeds from the Alloa Half Marathon are used to donate back in to the local community to help as many good causes as we can find. In the past 12 months there has been a particular emphasis on children’s sports clubs and buying disadvantaged children presents for Christmas. If you would like to find out where this money goes please visit our Alloa Round Table Facebook page!
We have also started a Go Fund Me page to help fight coronavirus and to buy Christmas Gifts for underprivileged children. In order to raise this money all the members of Alloa Round Table will be completing the half marathon course at least once each with a total distance target of 150 miles (this is the same distance as Alloa to Inverness). If you can help share this page it would be greatly appreciated:

What happens next?
If you are a runner, you will receive an email from sportsystems.co.uk within the next 48 hours. Within this email you will see this video again and you will also be given instructions on how to choose what option you want. If you want to choose Option 2 to defer to 2021, you do not need to do anything. If we do not receive a response by the 30th July 2020 we will automatically move your place to 2021. No refunds will be given after this date. If you do not receive an email from sportsystems.co.uk please check your junk folder. If it is not in there, please let us know and we will ensure that an email is sent out to you.
We look forward to seeing you all in 2021 but in the meantime; keep safe, follow the government guidelines and we will all get through this together.
